As a teenager living in confined conditions, unable to go outside and experience the world, life for Anne was very difficult. Handy Tips on Visiting the Anne Frank House

The Anne Frank House is located within the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam, a beautiful neighborhood built along winding canals in the 17th century. (Pronounced Your-don) You’ll find old churches here and much of that famous Amsterdam architecture, tree-lined streets, bobbing houseboats, tons of museums, and much to see and do. The Anne Frank House does have a cloak room where you can store your coat, umbrella, smaller bag, etc. However, they will not allow entry of anything larger than a sheet of paper—a backpack, shopping bags, suitcase, etc.

It is accessible via a concealed entrance through the original hinged bookcase. In September 1944 Anne and her sister Margot were taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau and then a few weeks later they were relocated to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Bergen-Belsen was liberated by British forces in April 1945. After 2 years the family was somehow betrayed and the secret annex was discovered by the Germans.

The audio tour helps to bring Anne and the rest of the occupiers to life and it provides a deeper understanding about the persecution of Jewish people during World War II. Included in the price of the tickets you will also get an audio-guide in your language of choice that will take you through the exhibit. When you go on the site to get your ticket you will be able to select your preferred time-slot for your visit. The front of the house showcases a variety of different items from the family’s time living in the annex.

Please leave your luggage at your hotel or deposit it at the drop & go at Amsterdam Central Station, otherwise, you may not be able to come inside the museum. The rooms are empty except for documents and the belongings of the eight people who hid there. The front part of the house tells the story of Anne Frank based on quotations from her diary, historical documents, photographs, audiovisual footage and original objects. Anne Frank’s original diaries and writings are displayed in another room.
